1. Service Scope

The Aunty Jane Teleabortion service provides access to Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP) via telehealth. This service is designed to increase access to safe and confidential abortion care, particularly for individuals in rural and regional areas. The service encompasses:

  • Eligibility Assessments: Determining client eligibility for medical abortion and Teleabortion based on clinical and logistical criteria.

  • Telehealth Consultations: Two-stage process (“Consult 1” and “Consult 2”) providing thorough clinical assessment, client counselling, and informed consent.

  • Prescription Management: Issuing e-prescriptions for required medications and facilitating pharmacy dispensing.

  • Medication Dispatch & Tracking: Partnering with pharmacies to ensure secure dispensing, packaging, and delivery of medications, with tracking provided.

  • Follow-Up Care: Client-led follow-up using LSUP testing and a mandatory 14-Day Post Consultation, with structured lost-to-follow-up procedures.

  • Aftercare Support: Access to 24/7 Nurse Support by phone, text or chatbot.

  • Administrative Support: Intake forms, payment processing, and client reminders managed securely.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Clients must meet all of the following to be eligible:

  • Residence in Australia.

  • Within two (2) hours’ drive of a 24-hour emergency medical service during medication administration and the following 4 days.

  • No overseas travel planned within the next month.

  • No moderate to severe vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain at booking.

  • No known allergy to mifepristone, misoprostol or prostaglandins.

  • No history of chronic adrenal failure.

  • Not taking oral corticosteroid medication.

  • Not taking anticoagulants (excluding aspirin).

  • No known bleeding disorder.

  • First day of last menstrual period less than 56 days ago.

  • Aged ≥16 years.

  • Proficiency in English sufficient to follow complex medical instructions (interpreters cannot be used).

  • Access to a phone, internet and email for communication.

3. Teleabortion Process

3.1 Consult 1

  • Review medical, obstetric, and psychosocial history.

  • Confirm eligibility for Teleabortion.

  • Request and review ultrasound and pathology where clinically indicated.

  • Provide counselling on the process, risks, and alternatives.

  • Confirm medication access preference (pharmacy pickup or courier delivery).

3.2 Consult 2

  • Obtain informed consent using the Teleabortion Consent to Treatment form.

  • Review eligibility and investigations.

  • Provide opportunity for questions and emotional support.

  • Issue e-prescriptions for MS-2 Step, analgesia, and antiemetics in line with jurisdictional requirements.

  • Provide Support & Information Guide: Abortion by Telehealth booklet.

  • Confirm aftercare arrangements and 24/7 nurse access.

3.3 Medication Dispatch

Partner pharmacies will:

  • Dispense, package, and courier medications.

  • Provide tracking details to both client and Aunty Jane Nurse.

  • Include Thrive Package, client instructions, invoices, and LSUP kit if required.

3.4 Follow-Up

  • Self-Assessment Questionnaire: Completed 14 days after misoprostol.

  • LSUP Testing: Performed at 14 days post-treatment if indicated.

  • 14-Day Post Consultation: Telehealth review to assess symptoms, confirm resolution of pregnancy, and address emotional wellbeing. Additional imaging or pathology may be arranged if clinically necessary.

  • Lost to Follow-Up: Structured attempts (phone, SMS, email) will be made if clients do not attend scheduled follow-up.

4. Responsibilities

Client Responsibilities

Clients agree to:

  • Accurately complete intake forms and provide truthful information.

  • Ensure eligibility criteria are met before booking Consult 1.

  • Attend scheduled consultations and follow all medical advice.

  • Remain within 2 hours of emergency medical care while taking medications and for 4 days afterwards.

  • Respond promptly to urgent calls, texts, or emails from Aunty Jane.

  • Pay all consultation and medication fees.

  • Follow instructions in the Support & Information Guide: Abortion by Telehealth.

  • Complete follow-up steps (self-assessment, LSUP testing if required, and 14-Day Post Consultation).

Aunty Jane Responsibilities

Aunty Jane will:

  • Provide evidence-based, professional telehealth consultations.

  • Communicate risks of medical abortion and signs of ectopic pregnancy in writing and verbally.

  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy laws.

  • Facilitate access to prescribed medications via e-prescriptions and pharmacy partnerships.

  • Provide 24/7 aftercare support.

  • Manage intake, payments, and reminders securely.

5. Confidentiality and Privacy

  • Personal and medical information is collected and stored in compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and relevant state legislation.

  • Information will only be shared with authorised staff and pharmacies as required.

  • Secure platforms are used for consultations and data storage.

6. Payment Terms

  • A non-refundable booking fee is required to secure Consult 1.

  • Full payment for Consult 2 is required before the appointment.

  • Medication costs are paid directly to the dispensing pharmacy.

  • Clients are responsible for verifying medication costs with their pharmacy.

7. Limitations of Liability

  • Aunty Jane is not responsible for pharmacy errors, medication shortages, or delivery delays.

  • Aunty Jane does not provide in-person or emergency care services.

  • Clients assume responsibility for following medical advice and seeking urgent care when required.

8. Informed Consent

  • Clients must complete and sign the Teleabortion Consent to Treatment form during Consult 2.

  • Consent confirms clients understand risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up requirements.

  • Clients acknowledge responsibility for their own aftercare and emergency help-seeking.

9. Dispute Resolution

  • Disputes will first be addressed through good-faith discussion.

  • If unresolved, matters may proceed to mediation or arbitration under Australian law.

10. Termination of Service

Aunty Jane may terminate services if:

  • False or misleading information is provided.

  • Eligibility criteria are not met.

  • Abusive or inappropriate behaviour toward staff occurs.

  • Evidence of coercion is identified.

Termination will be communicated in writing with reasons provided.

11. Amendments

  • Aunty Jane may amend these Terms & Conditions at any time.

  • Significant changes will be communicated to clients.

  • Continued use of services constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
